A Walk In The Park Update – stories in the media
Our annual fundraising event ‘A Walk In The Park’ is fast approaching – on Sunday 17th September at Perry Lakes, which coincides with Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Register between Sunday 10 September and 4pm Friday 15 September to enter a draw for $100 Ikea voucher – the winner will be drawn at random and announced on the day by our MC.
We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the WA community with links to Parkinson’s and have been fortunate to be able to share some of the many stories we have come across in local community newspapers.
Perth born ex-Carlton ALF Player David Ellard who now plays for WAFL Swan Districts is coming with his Dad Rick who was diagnosed in 2007 with Parkinson’s. They have put together three teams and are fundraising to support research to find a cure. Read the full story here
Shameen Taheri-Lee from Victoria Park, who is the MC at our event, shared her story about her Mum Gulty who was a well known Perth GP that was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000, read the full story here
Peter Carbon’s (whose story made the front page of two newspapers) is an award winning golfer from Fremantle. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s over 30 years ago, and still plays golf and coaches the youth team. Read the full story here
Sue Edge from Mandurah hit the headlines in two local newspapers with her story of how she has uncovered her creative side since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2010. She has used this new found talent to continually fundraise for Parkinson’s WA. Read Sue’s story in The Mandurah Mail and Sound Telegraph
Tamara and her Mum Lisa are returning this year to coordinate all of our volunteers on the day. Read their story about their family link to Parkinson’s here
