Our Parkinson’s Nurse Specialists visit people with Parkinson’s in their homes
LATEST DIRECTION WITH COVID-19
We are happy to have adapted our practices to include Covid-19 screening and how fortunate are we here in Western Australia with the health outcomes. Well done to all of our community.
We have now almost returned to our normal home visiting service, however, in order to protect the vulnerable population in aged care facilities that will be our last lifting of restrictions – this is in keeping with the guidelines of many aged care providers. Currently, the Mandurah-Peel area is being covered by telephone from The Niche.
We would like to commend everyone who has been flexible by agreeing to conduct your ‘ home visits’ with the Parkinson’s Nurse Service by phone, Skype, Facetime or Zoom. We have always been very protective and proud of our ability to do community based nursing but when a pandemic strikes we all have to sit up and take notice.
We will continue to keep you posted about any changes to the Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist Service as they are decided upon.
Remember,We Are In This Together!
The Parkinson’s Nurse Specialists team covers the Metropolitan area and the South West, making home visits and assisting patients with management of the condition.
This innovative service, the first of its kind in Australia, is funded by the Department of Health WA and charitable trusts with no charge to clients. This community based nursing service, established in 1998, has been so successful that Parkinson’s WA has on many occasions presented this model as world’s best practice at conferences and workshops in Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Washington (USA), Vienna (Austria), Durban (South Africa) and Glasgow (Scotland).
Members have access to professional advice through a Professional Advisory Panel. A Counsellor and Respite Coordinator are available through affiliation with the Neurological Council of Western Australia.
